Poirier Healthcare Cost Shift?
News reports indicate Rep. Poirier would tax payroll to subsidize his public option Green Mountain Care to “compete” with private insurance. Question is will it make the same Medicare-plus-10-percent payment for services in Poirier’s earlier proposal? That’s not competition; it’s price fixing and more shifting of costs (and higher rates) to private insurance. Business gets to pay a new tax to increase the price of the insurance businesses currently provide employees. Hopefully, this isn’t Poirier’s solution. Meanwhile, what happens to Catamount’s state subsidized coverage?
